Frank Lampard demands higher standards after Coventry City's crushing defeat
Frank Lampard has called for immediate improvement after Coventry City matched an unwanted Premier League record in a 5-0 thrashing by Brighton.

Coventry City suffered a devastating 5-0 defeat against Brighton, a result that saw them match an unwanted Premier League record for the worst start to a season without scoring a goal. The squad managed by Frank Lampard struggled throughout, particularly after a red card for Taiwo Awoniyi early in the second half.
Brighton took control early with Charalampos Kostoulas opening the scoring, followed by a second from Malick Yalcouye. Following the dismissal, the visitors capitalized on their numerical advantage through a Pascal Gross penalty, a long-range strike from Lewis Dunk, and a late finish from Yasin Ayari.

The heavy setback matched the joint-heaviest defeat of Lampard's managerial career and placed Coventry alongside the 2017-18 Crystal Palace side. Despite sitting bottom of the table with zero points after four matches, Lampard pointed to the difficult opening schedule, including fixtures against Arsenal and Manchester City.
Lampard has urged his players to maintain focus and avoid self-pity. The Sky Blues must now regroup quickly for their Carabao Cup third-round tie against Aston Villa on September 16, as they continue their search for a first league goal and point.
