FIFA has announced plans to sell a large minority stake in a new company that will oversee its flagship events, including the World Cup and Club World Cup. The move is designed to generate $4.2 billion in capital to boost funding for its 211 member associations through the new FIFA Fast-Forward Programme.

Under the proposal, a new entity called FIFA Forward Enterprises (FFE) will manage all commercial operations, while FIFA retains a majority stake and its role as the global governing body. Financial advisory for the project is being led by JP Morgan, with Thrive Eternal, an investment vehicle associated with Joshua Kushner, expected to lead the investor group.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has championed the plan, arguing that the sport needs a structure where the commercial side operates as a focused business to maximize growth. Infantino stated that the initiative aims to democratize football by providing member associations with the resources to shape their own futures.

The proposal has faced immediate pushback from UEFA, which issued a statement declaring that the plan "crosses a line that football’s governing institutions should never cross." European football's governing body criticized the lack of transparency and the trading of football's "soul" to private investors.

The project requires approval from the majority of national associations and FIFA’s 37-member council. If ratified, the total development funding from FIFA is expected to exceed $10 billion over the next four years, significantly increasing the grants available to each member nation.
