Ahead of the Tigres debut in the Apertura 2026 tournament, captain Fernando Gorriarán opened up about the possible departure of Ángel Correa. The midfielder acknowledged that losing a player of such caliber would be a significant blow to the squad but stressed that the team must focus on competing with those who remain.
Gorriarán confirmed that he had a private conversation with the Argentine during the preseason but declined to share details, citing the personal nature of their discussion. «We all know Ángel's quality. He explained his stance to me, and that conversation will remain private. The goal is not to feel his absence and to boost the players we currently have. It will be a good semester for others to step up,» the captain stated.
When asked about the criticism Correa has faced on social media, Gorriarán called for empathy regarding the tough decisions footballers must sometimes make. «It is a very delicate subject. What I can tell the fans is that this team will compete no matter who is here. Every player who enters the pitch will defend this institution and the badge as we have always done,» he added.
Furthermore, Gorriarán noted that the locker room has been affected by the departures of key figures like André-Pierre Gignac and the potential exit of Correa. «These are very tough losses. We are talking about important names. Emotionally, it hits us because, beyond their quality, they are great friends. We have to keep moving forward and try to achieve a part of what André accomplished for this club,» he concluded.
