Fernando Diniz explains absence of Corinthians youth prospects in friendly

Corinthians head coach Fernando Diniz has explained why he opted not to use striker Gui Negão and midfielder Dieguinho during the 1-1 friendly draw against Cascavel. The coach confirmed that the decision was made to protect the youngsters for a crucial upcoming fixture.

Diniz stated that the duo was only included in the squad as a precautionary measure, but their primary focus remains the U-20 Brasileiro quarter-final against Palmeiras.

They wouldn't even have come, but we brought them just in case. They are with the U-20 team because of the importance of the game against Palmeiras. After Thursday, they will be back with us. Fernando Diniz

The first leg of the quarter-final, held at Parque São Jorge, saw Palmeiras secure a 1-0 victory. The teams are scheduled to meet for the decisive second leg on July 16 at Arena Barueri.

Both players are part of the Corinthians senior setup but are not considered absolute starters. Dieguinho has been with the club since the age of seven, rising through the futsal and youth ranks, while Gui Negão has been managing his return to fitness following a hamstring injury suffered in March.
