English FA files first official charge against Southampton manager in spying scandal

The English Football Association (FA) has officially filed a formal charge against Southampton manager Tonda Eckert in connection with the spying scandal that caused significant controversy last season.

According to reports, the FA alleges that Eckert authorized the monitoring of training sessions held by Oxford United, Ipswich Town, and Middlesbrough ahead of matches against his side, which constitutes a breach of competition regulations.

An independent disciplinary commission previously established that the coach admitted to granting approval for this conduct. These actions resulted in Southampton being excluded from the play-off final for promotion to the Premier League, a decision that cost the club potential financial gains estimated at 200 million pounds.

With the investigation now concluded, the FA has charged Eckert with misconduct. The manager is required to respond to the charge by July 28. Southampton confirmed they are aware of the charge and stated that the club and Eckert will continue to cooperate fully and transparently with the governing body.
