Ederson replaces injured Wesley in Brazil World Cup squad

Atalanta midfielder Ederson has been drafted into Brazil's squad for the World Cup. He replaces Roma full-back Wesley, who has been ruled out of the tournament after an MRI revealed an adductor muscle injury in his left thigh.

The inclusion of Ederson helps balance Carlo Ancelotti’s 26-man roster, which initially featured only five specialist midfielders. His presence provides the manager with tactical flexibility, making it easier to shift from a 4-2-4 system to a three-man midfield when facing stronger opposition.

For Ederson, the call-up follows a major career move, with Manchester United having recently reached an agreement to sign the 26-year-old for a fixed fee of €40.5 million plus add-ons.

Brazil are drawn in Group C alongside Morocco, Haiti, and Scotland. Ederson is expected to join his teammates in the United States on Monday.
