Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has shared his outlook on the current Premier League campaign. Despite the Gunners' strong start to their title defence with an opening-weekend win against Coventry, the club legend has identified Liverpool as a surprising primary threat.
Seaman admitted that the performance of other rivals in the early stages has been underwhelming. While he expects Manchester City to remain strong, it is the Anfield side that has caught his eye.
We’ve not seen Liverpool yet with their new manager and their new signings. I did think Man United were going to be a lot better than what I’ve seen today so that’s been disappointing. The City result against Arsenal in the Community Shield that really disappointed me. I’m looking at Liverpool, I still think City will be strong, but I’m going for Liverpool. David Seaman
Liverpool have entered a new era following the appointment of Andoni Iraola. The club has focused on surgical reinforcements, including the arrival of Jeremy Jacquet and Barcelona loanee Ronald Araujo to bolster the backline. Further additions are expected as the club eyes potential deals for PSG duo Bradley Barcola and Ibrahima Mbaye.
A key focus for Iraola is the development of Swedish striker Alexander Isak. Following an injury-hit debut season, Isak is currently the only senior centre-forward available to the manager. The coaching staff is working on making him a more complete focal point of the attack, with Iraola noting that the striker has been training consistently and looks in a good place physically. The success of this new era may well hinge on Isak's ability to lead the line effectively as they prepare for their opening trip to Newcastle.
