Ahead of the 2026 World Cup final against Argentina, Spain defender Marc Cucurella has shared surprising plans regarding his international future. The 27-year-old stated that he is ready to step down from the national team immediately after the tournament if his side secures the world title.

If Spain wins the World Cup, I will call Luis de la Fuente the next day and retire from the national team. With Euro and World Cup trophies, you cannot ask for more. Marc Cucurella

Cucurella made his international debut in 2021 and has since earned 31 caps, scoring one goal. His most significant achievement to date is winning Euro 2024. A World Cup victory would represent the perfect conclusion to his career with the national side.

Standing in their way is Argentina, captained by Lionel Messi, who are aiming to defend their world crown in what promises to be a highly competitive final match.
