Mikel Arteta has the potential to surpass Arsene Wenger’s legacy and become a four-time Premier League winner at Arsenal. Former Gunners midfielder Stefan Schwarz believes that the Spaniard is well-equipped to build a dynasty, arguing that the hardest step in any title pursuit is achieving the first victory.
Schwarz highlighted that the team’s resilience, developed through three consecutive seasons as runners-up, has been crucial to their recent breakthrough. "They have done it. They know they are capable of it, so their mental strength will be much stronger this season," Schwarz said. "To win a Premier League, you need to know how to suffer. It's not the good games that make you a champion, it's the lesser games that you have maybe not performed in but still get the results."

Arteta has emphasized that his long-term future at the club relies on earning the right to lead every day through consistent performance and the support of his players. With his current deal set to expire in the summer of 2027, the club is expected to open contract discussions soon. The Gunners are now preparing for the 2026-27 season, with a Community Shield clash against Manchester City scheduled for August 16 before their league opener against Coventry five days later.
