The transfer of the 2008-born prospect Ahanor has taken an unusual structural path. Reports indicate that the player will join Crystal Palace on loan, but he will formally arrive from Atalanta rather than directly from Chelsea.
Although the clubs have reached an agreement for his eventual move to the Blues for 48 million, the official transfer is slated for the 2027/28 season. For now, Chelsea will only announce a pre-agreement for his arrival.
This complex solution is necessitated by Premier League rules. Regulations prevent a club from loaning more than one player to another club in the same league. Since Axel Disasi is already on loan at Crystal Palace, the Blues were unable to send Ahanor to the same side under standard terms.
By utilizing Atalanta as an intermediary, the clubs are effectively navigating these restrictions to ensure the young talent gains competitive experience in English football.
