Barcelona winger Anthony Gordon has expressed his deep disappointment following England's 2-1 defeat to Argentina in the World Cup semi-final. Gordon had opened the scoring in the 55th minute, but a late surge from Argentina saw the Three Lions knocked out of the tournament in Atlanta.
Following the match, Gordon took to social media to share his feelings with the supporters:
"Truly devastated. I genuinely thought this was our time to win after waiting so many years but it wasn't to be and it's going to hurt for a while."
The 25-year-old winger had been a key contributor throughout the tournament, providing one goal and three assists in six appearances. He reflected on the effort put in by the squad, noting that he cherished every moment representing his country on the world stage.
England now faces a consolation fixture against France to determine the third-place finisher. Once the international duties are concluded, Gordon will take a summer break before joining the Barcelona squad for pre-season training ahead of the new campaign.
