Andrea Maldera has clarified the reasons behind the call-up of Dynamo Kyiv winger Andriy Yarmolenko to the Ukraine national team. The coach stated that as long as the veteran continues to play professional football, he remains a candidate for the national squad.
Maldera explained that after meeting with the player, he was convinced that having him in the camp was the right decision. While the coach did not guarantee him a starting spot, he underscored the value Yarmolenko brings to the group.
As long as Andriy Yarmolenko is playing football, he will always be a candidate for the Ukraine national team. I know he is not the same player he was five years ago, but he remains a magnificent footballer. I met with him, we talked, and it was clear from the first moment that he should be at our disposal.
