André Rizek weighs in on Wesley's potential injury replacement
Following a groin injury to Roma's Wesley, journalist André Rizek has suggested how Brazil should handle the defensive vacancy ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
Roma defender Wesley suffered a potential groin injury during Brazil's 2-1 friendly victory over Egypt. His participation in the 2026 World Cup is now in doubt, with medical examinations pending to determine if Carlo Ancelotti will need to make a roster change.
During the 'Seleção Sportv' program, sports journalist André Rizek discussed potential squad adjustments. Despite the presence of Paulo Henrique from Vasco and Vitinho from Botafogo on the preliminary list, the expert deemed them suboptimal replacements.
"The option would be to stick with Danilo, have patience. And correct the lack of midfielders by bringing in one more for that sector. There is no full-back at Wesley's level, so ideally he should continue!" — André Rizek.
If a serious injury is confirmed, FIFA regulations require any replacement to be selected from the submitted preliminary list. The change must be announced no later than 24 hours before the team's opening match, which is set for 7:00 PM next Saturday (June 13).
