Championship side Wrexham are closing in on the appointment of Newcastle United's head of recruitment Steve Nickson as their new sporting director. The recruitment chief, who has spent 15 years with the Magpies, is expected to leave his current role to join the ambitious Welsh club in September.
This move is viewed as a significant step for Wrexham as the club seeks to strengthen its bid for promotion to the Premier League. Nickson has an established reputation for his work in the transfer market, having played a key role in the arrivals of Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes, and Miguel Almiron at St James' Park.
In his new position, Nickson will work closely with manager Phil Parkinson. While his exact remit is yet to be confirmed, he is expected to oversee a mixture of transfer business and broader football operations.
"Fortunately, we have an amazing head of recruitment in Steve Nickson, who has been with the club for a long time and has a really deep knowledge of the player markets," Amanda Staveley previously said.
