Wayne Rooney: Chelsea's European absence will make them a Premier League threat

Former Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney believes Chelsea's failure to qualify for European competition will ironically help them become a "real threat" in the Premier League next season. The Blues finished a difficult campaign in 10th place.

Rooney highlights that the reduced fixture list will provide a significant tactical advantage. With only one game a week, the team will have much more time on the training pitch to adapt to the methods of new manager Xabi Alonso.

The former striker noted that this dynamic allowed other clubs, such as Manchester United, to focus their efforts and secure higher finishes in previous seasons. For Chelsea, the focus will now shift to a full pre-season under Alonso's leadership, aiming to replicate recovery runs seen in past seasons, such as their 2016-17 title-winning campaign.
