Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero is expected to be absent for the club's final Premier League match of the season against Everton this Sunday. The defender has travelled to his native Argentina, where he is reportedly planning to attend the final match of his former club, Belgrano.
Romero has been sidelined since April after suffering a knee injury in a fixture against Sunderland. He is currently undergoing a rehabilitation programme as he aims to regain fitness. The president of Belgrano, Luis Artime, has confirmed that the player has been granted permission to use their training facilities.
This situation carries weight as Tottenham faces a critical final day in their battle to avoid relegation from the top flight. While the injured captain would not be available for selection, his presence 7,000 miles away during such a pivotal moment for the club has drawn attention, given the team's historic status in the division.
Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi is scheduled to address the media later on Friday, where he is expected to comment on the matter. The club has yet to provide an official statement regarding the defender's travel.
