The future of Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert remains uncertain as the club kicks off its Championship season. The manager is currently awaiting a verdict from the Football Association (FA) regarding the 'Spygate' scandal, which previously saw the club expelled from the play-offs and hit with a four-point deduction for the new campaign.
According to BBC Sport, the FA hearing is expected to take place in mid-September. By the time a result is reached—and allowing for a potential appeal process—Southampton will be well into their season. Eckert was charged with misconduct on 22 July following the club's admission that they spied on three opponents last season.
Club owner Dragan Solak previously stated that he would not sack Eckert, believing the coach deserves a second chance. However, this stance could be challenged if the FA hands down a lengthy ban. Group technical director Johannes Spors confirmed that the board is discussing various scenarios to ensure the club is prepared for any outcome.

Eckert has remained proactive during the summer, cooperating with the investigation and consulting with experienced managers to improve his understanding of EFL regulations.
