Tigres win again, breaking their winless streak against Atlante
Rodrigo Aguirre and Juan Brunetta scored to secure Tigres' first victory of the Apertura 2026 tournament.

Tigres finally returned to winning ways in the Apertura 2026, defeating Atlante 2-0 at the Estadio Universitario in Matchday 5. The victory marks their first of the tournament and ends a frustrating winless streak of over 100 days.
Despite enjoying long spells of possession, Tigres struggled to break down the visitors in the first half. The task became easier for the hosts after Luis Calzadilla was sent off in the 36th minute, leaving Atlante with ten men.
The match remained tense until the second half. Atlante had a golden opportunity to take the lead from a penalty in the 71st minute, but Tigres goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán stepped up to deny Luis Puente, keeping the score level.
Tigres' perseverance was rewarded in the 79th minute when Rodrigo Aguirre found the net. Juan Brunetta then sealed the 2-0 win in the 89th minute, triggering celebrations in the stands. This result provides a significant boost for the team as they begin a new chapter under manager Víctor Manuel Vucetich.
