Tigres win again, breaking their long drought against Atlante
Rodrigo Aguirre and Juan Brunetta scored to secure Tigres' 2-0 victory over Atlante in the Apertura 2026.
Tigres secured their first win of the Apertura 2026 tournament, defeating Atlante 2-0 at the Estadio Universitario in the fifth round. The result marks the end of a winless streak that had lasted over 100 days.
While Tigres dominated possession for much of the game, they struggled to create clear-cut chances in the first half. The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 36th minute when Luis Calzadilla was sent off, but Tigres were unable to capitalize before the break.
The match turned in the 71st minute when the referee awarded a penalty to Atlante. Nahuel Guzmán emerged as the hero, saving Luis Puente’s shot to maintain the deadlock. Shortly after, in the 79th minute, Rodrigo Aguirre broke the tie, and Juan Brunetta sealed the 2-0 victory in the 89th minute.
This win provides a much-needed boost for the team as they begin a new chapter under manager Victor Manuel Vucetich.
