Portugal secured a commanding 4-2 victory over Denmark in the UEFA Nations League, brushing aside the controversy surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo's sudden departure. The 41-year-old left the team camp on Wednesday shortly after manager Jorge Jesus confirmed he would be benched for the second consecutive match.
Despite the high-profile exit, the squad delivered a strong performance that maintained Portugal's perfect record in the tournament. Speaking after the game, Jesus dismissed suggestions that the incident could fracture his relationship with the players or disrupt the team's harmony.
There's nothing that should stop the group from being with me. The things that happen don't separate the group; they haven't separated us and they won't separate us. A high-quality victory, with four goals, a top-level performance. It can't be overlooked. Jorge Jesus
Striker Goncalo Ramos, who replaced Ronaldo in the starting XI, assisted Joao Cancelo's opening goal before adding one of his own. Ramos praised the manager's tactical clarity, noting that the players feel more confident in their current setup.
Portugal now shifts its focus to the next fixture, as they prepare to host Norway on Sunday at the Dragao stadium.
