The false nine: 6 options for Flick to solve Barcelona's crisis
Following Robert Lewandowski's exit and uncertainty over Ferran Torres, Hansi Flick is exploring tactical alternatives for Barcelona's striker position.

The departure of Robert Lewandowski and the uncertain future of Ferran Torres have forced head coach Hansi Flick to hunt for alternatives at the striker position from the very first day of pre-season training. While Barcelona are pushing to sign Julián Álvarez from Atlético, the Madrid club currently refuses to sell, prompting Flick to prepare tactical solutions for every possible scenario.
Flick is now looking at several candidates to fill the false nine role. Dani Olmo is a primary option, having developed through the academy as a striker before transitioning into midfield. Fermín López has also emerged as a contender, known for his sharp goalscoring instinct and direct style of play.
The technical staff is also evaluating wingers who can operate through the middle, including Raphinha and Lamine Yamal. Furthermore, recent signings Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi were brought in partly due to their versatility and ability to play in central attacking roles.
For this role, Flick demands specific qualities: goal output, relentless pressing, off-the-ball movement, and the ability to run into space. During recent sessions, Flick has also tested youth prospects Ibrahima Tonкара and Toni Fernández to gauge their readiness for the first team.
