Sevilla has climbed to the top of the La Liga standings following a commanding 3-1 away victory against Athletic Bilbao. The match was heavily influenced by an early red card that shifted the momentum in favor of the visitors.
Athletic Bilbao faced a significant setback in the 11th minute when Yuri Berchiche was sent off for a foul near his own goal. Sevilla capitalized on the man advantage just four minutes later, as Oso scored into an empty net after an error by goalkeeper Unai Simon. In the second half, Ejuke extended the lead, and Romero added a third following defensive struggles from the home side.
Despite playing with ten men, the Basque side continued to show effort and managed to pull one goal back in the 70th minute through Paredes, who scored from a corner kick delivery. However, their final push proved insufficient to mount a comeback, marking a difficult start for Edin Terzic in his debut as the new head coach of Athletic Bilbao.
This result marks Sevilla's second consecutive win, following their opening-round success against Rayo Vallecano. For Athletic, the focus now shifts to recovering from this setback.
In the next round, Sevilla will host Atletico Madrid, while Athletic Bilbao is set to travel to Barcelona.
