Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni was moved to tears following his team's 3-2 comeback victory over Egypt in the 2026 World Cup Round of 16.

Argentina secured a dramatic victory in the 2026 World Cup Round of 16, defeating Egypt 3-2. Despite trailing 0-2, the defending champions managed to turn the game around and clinch a spot in the quarter-finals.
Following the final whistle, head coach Lionel Scaloni was visibly overcome with emotion, unable to finish his post-match interview. "Excuse me, I'm overwhelmed by emotion. What a team! That's it, I have to go," the manager said while leaving the broadcast area in tears.
During the subsequent press conference, Scaloni explained that such moments were the reason he chose to become a coach after his playing career. He noted that he suffers on the bench just like the fans, but the emotions that football provides to Argentines are incomparable.
The coach noted that despite conceding two goals on counter-attacks, his team controlled the game and created numerous chances throughout the match. He praised the resilient character of his players, who refused to give up until the final whistle.
With this win, Argentina advances to the World Cup quarter-finals. They are set to face Switzerland, who qualified for the next stage after a penalty shootout victory against Colombia.
