Real Madrid have reached a decisive agreement to sign highly-rated Racing Santander midfielder Sergio Martínez Montero on a contract running until 2030. The move marks a significant addition to the club's youth pipeline.
Martínez is set to join Real Madrid Castilla initially, with the prospect of participating in first-team training sessions under the guidance of José Mourinho and his coaching staff. The young midfielder gained prominence late last season, making 10 appearances in Spain's second division.
The competition for his signature was fierce. According to reports, Racing and the player were approached by several clubs aiming to hijack the deal, including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Villarreal. Furthermore, interest arrived from the English Premier League, the German Bundesliga, and the Saudi League.
Despite these lucrative alternatives, Martínez remained committed to joining the Santiago Bernabéu side. Notably, Real Madrid opted not to trigger the 3 million euro release clause, choosing instead to negotiate directly with the selling club to maintain positive relations for future dealings.
