Real Madrid continues to be active in the summer transfer market. Despite the recent acquisition of Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer, new manager Jose Mourinho is eager to bolster his backline with a left-footed central defender who can also operate as a fullback.

Piero Hincapie of Arsenal has emerged as one of the main targets for the Spanish giants. The Ecuadorian defender played a crucial role in Mikel Arteta's squad last season, helping the Gunners secure the Premier League title and reach the Champions League final.

Securing the 24-year-old could prove challenging for the club. Beyond the need to manage their wage bill, Madrid must work on outgoing transfers, including the potential sale of Raul Asensio, to create space within the roster.

Currently, Mourinho's shortlist includes several candidates. While Hincapie remains a priority, the club is also monitoring Ruben Dias of Manchester City and Alessandro Bastoni of Inter Milan. A move for Nico Schlotterbeck appears less likely at this stage following his recent injury.
