Promising 19-year-old forward Andrija Maksimovic is enduring a testing debut campaign at RB Leipzig. After arriving with huge expectations last summer following a standout season at Red Star Belgrade, the youngster—often nicknamed 'Messi' due to his appearance—has struggled to break into the first team.
The season was disrupted early by a thigh injury, which hindered his pre-season preparations. Even after regaining fitness, manager Ole Werner has limited his opportunities. Throughout the season, Maksimovic has logged only 108 minutes across ten brief appearances, failing to register a single goal contribution.
Despite the lack of game time, Werner maintains that the talent remains clear. The coach praised the teenager's work ethic and technical vision, noting that he sees things on the pitch few others do. Werner believes that once the player builds more physical strength, he will become an exceptional asset for the club.
However, to avoid a repeat of this year's struggles, the club is now weighing the option of a season-long loan. With the club's attack currently spearheaded by successful signings like Yan Diomande and Romulo, finding consistent minutes in Leipzig has proven difficult.
The final decision rests with the player, who must choose between fighting for his place in a crowded attacking lineup or seeking regular first-team football elsewhere to continue his development.
