Denmark forward Rasmus Hojlund has firmly rejected a statement attributed to him regarding Cristiano Ronaldo. The message, which appeared on the Globe Soccer Awards social media account, claimed Hojlund was sending a message to the Portugal national team in defense of Ronaldo following his recent conflict with head coach Jorge Jesus.
The alleged quote suggested that the team failed to appreciate Ronaldo, but Hojlund took to the post directly to clarify his stance, commenting simply: "I did not say this."
This incident occurred shortly after Hojlund gained attention during Denmark's match against Portugal. After scoring a goal, the Dane celebrated using Ronaldo's trademark "Siu" celebration. He later explained that the gesture was intended as a tribute to his idol, maintaining that Ronaldo will always be remembered despite his current career challenges.
Tensions surrounding Ronaldo reached a peak when coach Jorge Jesus left him on the bench for the Denmark fixture. Following the decision, Ronaldo announced his departure from the national team camp, stating that he would share the truth behind his decision in due course.
