Racing and Villarreal draw in La Liga season opener

Racing and Villarreal kicked off their La Liga campaign with a 2:2 draw at the El Sardinero stadium in Santander. The hosts started the match on the front foot, taking control early on.
The scoring began in the 21st minute when Andres Martin converted a penalty. Racing doubled their lead in the 34th minute with a precise long-range effort from Sergio Martinez.
Villarreal, however, turned the game around during first-half stoppage time. Pape Gueye narrowed the deficit with a powerful strike from distance, and Nicolas Pepe leveled the score just moments later, capitalizing on the hosts' defensive lapse.
The visitors dominated possession in the second half but were unable to find a winner, largely due to Racing goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala, who made several key saves to keep his team in the match. The sides ultimately split the points in a hard-fought opening fixture.
