Portugal edges Wales in Jorge Jesus' debut
Portugal secured a victory against Wales thanks to a João Félix goal in the first match under new head coach Jorge Jesus.
Jorge Jesus began his tenure as Portugal's head coach with a hard-fought victory over Wales in the Nations League. The decisive moment came in the 21st minute when João Félix found the back of the net.
Cristiano Ronaldo started the match and looked sharp, coming close to his 1000th career goal on several occasions. He did manage to score, but the goal was ruled out by VAR for offside. True to the pre-match plan, Ronaldo was substituted in the 68th minute, making way for Gonçalo Ramos.
The new manager introduced an experimental attacking setup, pushing Félix further forward alongside Ronaldo. While Portugal showed flashes of creativity, Wales grew into the game late on. A late effort from the visitors rattled the crossbar of Diogo Costa's goal, with Rúben Dias making a crucial clearance to preserve the lead.
