Pochettino backs Balogun after failed Everton transfer

USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino has publicly backed Monaco striker Folarin Balogun after his deadline-day move to Everton collapsed.

While the deal was reportedly agreed upon between all parties, the 25-year-old forward personally blocked the move at the final stage. The decision stemmed from his frustration regarding the Everton medical team's assessment of his fitness, which he felt undermined his professional future.

Pochettino stated that he intends to speak with the player soon to offer guidance and support, emphasizing the importance of psychological well-being for national team players. He noted that such situations are difficult and that he wants to give the forward space before reaching out.

The player's status at Monaco remains uncertain, especially after being left out of their UEFA Conference League squad. With the European window closed, Balogun may look toward other markets still open, such as Saudi Arabia, Brazil, or Mexico, to secure playing time.
