PFA Awards 2026: Bruno Fernandes and Khadija Shaw win player of the year

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and Manchester City forward Khadija Shaw have been crowned the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) players of the year for the 2025-26 season. Both players previously secured the same honors from the Football Writers' Association (FWA).

For Fernandes, the award marks a significant individual milestone, as he becomes the first United player since Wayne Rooney in 2010 to claim the trophy. His historic season saw him set a new Premier League record with 21 assists, while adding 9 goals across 35 league appearances to help his side secure a Champions League spot.

Shaw continues her dominance in the Women's Super League, earning the PFA award for the second time in three seasons. The Jamaica international clinched her third consecutive Golden Boot with 21 goals, becoming the first player to hit the 20-goal mark in three different WSL campaigns. Her efforts were central to City's title-winning season.

The awards also recognized emerging talent, with Manchester City defender Nico O'Reilly named men's young player of the year, while Arsenal's Olivia Smith retained her title as the women's young player of the year. The PFA Team of the Year selections were heavily represented by Arsenal and Manchester City, highlighting the competitive nature of the top-flight races.
