NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani wears custom Arsenal kurta for Eid prayers

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani took his Arsenal fandom to a new level this week by wearing a custom-made kurta to Eid al-Adha prayers in the Bronx. The traditional tunic featured a design based on the Gunners' 2025-26 navy and red lightning bolt away shirt.

Mamdani, who became New York's first Muslim and Asian-American mayor, has supported the club since he was 10 years old. His football interests are diverse; he is also a shareholder in the Spanish club Real Oviedo, having joined an international effort to save the team from bankruptcy in 2012.

Beyond his personal support for the club, the mayor has been involved in local football preparations for the 2026 World Cup. He recently launched a lottery program to help New York residents secure affordable tournament tickets, voicing opposition to FIFA's dynamic pricing models.

The mayor's unique fashion choice comes just before a major milestone for his favorite team. Arsenal is set to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final in Budapest on May 30.
