Newcastle push to sign Amar Dedic from Benfica

Newcastle United are actively pursuing a deal for Benfica defender Amar Dedic. The club is looking to address an urgent defensive shortage ahead of their Premier League season opener against Liverpool on August 23.

Manager Matthias Jaissle is keen to make the 23-year-old his first signing. Having previously coached Dedic at Red Bull Salzburg and FC Liefering, Jaissle views their established relationship as a critical factor in ensuring the Bosnian can integrate quickly into the squad.

Newcastle's defensive options have been severely limited following the departures of Kieran Trippier, Emil Krafth, and Matt Targett, combined with Tino Livramento's ongoing recovery from surgery. With no other senior full-backs available, Dedic could be thrust directly into the starting lineup against Liverpool if an agreement is reached in time.

Although the defender has a €50 million release clause, it is widely expected that a lower fee will be negotiated. This move would mark Newcastle's sixth signing of the summer as the club attempts to build depth for Jaissle's high-intensity tactical system.
