29-year-old midfielder Nadiem Amiri has officially announced that he will remain with Mainz 05 for the upcoming season. His decision comes as a surprise to many, following recent intense speculation that had linked the German international with a move to RB Leipzig.
Amiri shared the news during a fan event held at the club's training camp in Tyrol. "A lot has been written about me in recent weeks and especially in the last few days, a lot of rumours, and I also had a lot of offers," Amiri stated to the cheering crowd. "But today, together with my family, I decided that I will definitely stay here."
Mainz acquired Amiri from Bayer Leverkusen in January 2024 for a fee of one million euros. Since his arrival, he has been a vital contributor to the squad, recording 26 goals and 13 assists in 82 appearances. His current contract with the club runs until the summer of 2028.
The commitment of the 13-time Germany international is a major boost for the club. Having significantly increased his market value since joining the 05ers, Amiri's decision provides stability for the team as they look ahead to the new campaign.
