Following an opening-weekend setback against Hull, Manchester United responded with a statement 5-2 victory over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford. Despite falling behind early to a Leif Davis strike, the hosts dominated the remainder of the match.
Bruno Fernandes led the charge with a hat-trick, while Bryan Mbeumo and a Jacob Greaves own goal rounded off the scoring. Chuka Akpom provided a late consolation for the visitors, but it did not overshadow a highly positive performance from Carrick’s side.

Carrick emphasized that dealing with adversity early in the campaign is essential for any successful side. While Fernandes took the headlines, the manager was particularly impressed by the performance of Kobbie Mainoo, who made his first start since returning from World Cup duty.
Carrick noted that while Fernandes deservedly earned credit for his three goals, Mainoo was immense in the middle of the pitch, providing the necessary stability to underpin the team’s dominant display.
