The future of Memphis Depay in Brazilian football has reached a critical stage as contract negotiations with Corinthians remain deadlocked. Despite the Dutchman's clear desire to remain at the club, a lingering debt of €6 million owed to the striker serves as the primary barrier to a new agreement.
The club has reportedly proposed spreading the debt repayment across the duration of a new two-year contract, specifically suggesting 26 manageable installments. However, Depay's representatives have resisted this structure due to legal concerns. They fear that without a formal incorporation of the debt into the new contract, the club could be held liable for the full amount in court should payment schedules fail.

With talks stagnant, Depay has taken personal control of the situation, seeking direct contact with club president Osmar Stabile to salvage the deal. While the dialogue has slightly improved, a final agreement is not yet imminent, and the player remains abroad following his participation at the 2026 World Cup.
