Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has addressed his nightmare start in the 2-2 draw against Augsburg, where an uncharacteristic error led to a goal within the first nine seconds. The veteran goalkeeper misjudged his touch in the penalty area, allowing Robin Fellhauer to capitalize and score, marking the earliest goal ever conceded in Bundesliga history.
Neuer was candid about the lapse in concentration immediately following the match, taking full accountability for the opening setback.
The first goal we conceded was a silly mistake by me. Not many of us have had a game like today. Manuel Neuer
Despite the early shock, Neuer maintained that the team kept their belief throughout the match and created enough chances to turn the game around. While goals from Ismael Saibari and substitute Nathaniel Brown gave Bayern a path back into the game, a second-half strike from Rodrigo Ribeiro ensured the points were shared.
Attention now shifts to the upcoming Champions League fixture against Viking on Tuesday. Vincent Kompany's squad will be looking to put this result behind them as they refocus on continental competition.
