Espanyol head coach Manolo Gonzalez addressed the media ahead of the final game of the season against Real Sociedad, expressing mixed feelings about the campaign. While confirming that the primary objective of survival in the top flight was achieved, he admitted the season could have yielded more.
"The year ends well, but it could have finished much better," Gonzalez noted. "Our main objective was to stay up, and we have accomplished that. It is important to value our presence in the Primera Division, but this experience should serve as a foundation for us to grow and improve in the future."
Despite the ups and downs, the team still holds a slim chance of qualifying for the Conference League. Gonzalez remains focused on the immediate task: "We will go out to win and finish the league with three straight victories. It would be a great joy for everyone, especially for our fans, if we can reach Europe."
On the topic of his future at the club, the coach insisted it is not the time for such discussions. He confirmed he has not yet spoken with Monchi, stating that his own position is currently secondary to the team's performance in the final match.
