15-year-old Manchester United academy star Joseph Junior Andreu Gabriel, known as JJ Gabriel, has stunned the club by demanding his registration be cancelled immediately. The young prospect, who recently made headlines with a historic hat-trick in the UEFA Youth League, is seeking an exit from Old Trafford.
The situation has escalated to the point where CEO Omar Berrada and Sporting Director Jason Wilcox have directly intervened in negotiations with the player's family. Despite his rapid rise through the U-18 and U-21 ranks, Gabriel stopped training with Michael Carrick’s squad late last week and wiped all references to the club from his social media accounts.
The root of the conflict reportedly lies in the deteriorating relationship between the club and the player's father, Joe O'Siruill. Gabriel had been expected to potentially feature in the Carabao Cup, which would have made him the youngest player in the club's history, but he is now distancing himself from the club's operations.
This matter is significant due to Gabriel’s elite status within the youth system and the precedent it sets for player development and retention. With the player turning 16 on October 6, he is approaching the window where he would be eligible for a formal scholarship agreement.
Manchester United is currently working to resolve the dispute. Under league regulations, a player cannot unilaterally cancel their registration without the club's and parents' consent; if no consensus is reached, the Premier League leadership will be tasked with deciding the future of the teenager.
