Luis Suarez left out of Uruguay squad for 2026 World Cup

The Inter Miami striker will not participate in the upcoming tournament as Marcelo Bielsa makes his squad selection.

Star striker Inter Miami's Luis Suarez has been left out of the Uruguay squad for the 2026 World Cup, which kicks off on June 11. Head coach Marcelo Bielsa has chosen three other forwards, opting not to include the experienced veteran in his final selection.

The 39-year-old had participated in every World Cup since 2010, appearing in 16 matches with seven goals and five assists. His tournament history is famously marked by his goal-line handball against Ghana in 2010, which helped Uruguay advance to the next round via a penalty shootout.

Despite his solid form this season, where he scored six goals in 12 club appearances, Suarez failed to impress the coaching staff enough to earn a spot. Uruguay is set to compete in Group H, facing Cape Verde, Spain, and Saudi Arabia.
