Manuel Locatelli is facing a critical decision regarding a meniscus injury that requires immediate surgical intervention. According to Professor Rossi, delaying the procedure could lead to the complete destruction of the meniscus, making a full recovery impossible.
The expert cited the case of Paul Pogba, who attempted conservative treatment to avoid surgery, only for the meniscus to be completely destroyed. Had he opted for surgery sooner, it might have been possible to save it, but the delayed intervention meant the tissue had to be removed entirely rather than repaired.
Surgery is mandatory to save the meniscus and avoid ending up like Pogba. Post-operative recovery from a meniscal repair is very slow; I would compare it to an ACL injury in terms of the timescale. Professor Rossi
Immediate intervention is currently the only viable path to ensure as much of the meniscus as possible can be preserved. The medical advice emphasizes that once the tissue is destroyed beyond repair, surgeons are left with no choice but to remove the damaged parts.
