Liverpool's £60m signing Jeremy Jaquet opens up on his transfer
20-year-old French talent Jeremy Jaquet explains why he chose Liverpool over Chelsea and discusses his future at the club.
French defender Jeremy Jaquet has shared his thoughts on joining Liverpool. The 20-year-old, who arrives from Rennes, cost the Merseyside club £60 million, beating competition from Chelsea to secure his signature.
In an interview with Ouest-France, Jaquet explained that the club's sporting project was the deciding factor. He noted that Chelsea had too much competition in his position, whereas at Liverpool, he sees an opportunity to learn from veterans like Virgil van Dijk and his compatriot Ibrahima Konate.
I didn't rush this big step, but I quickly saw myself at Liverpool. If the biggest clubs in Europe are interested, we are not going to say no to them. Jeremy Jaquet
Despite the significant price tag—making him the tenth most expensive French player ever—Jaquet remains confident. He is currently recovering from a serious shoulder injury that ended his season in Ligue 1 but expects to be fully fit for pre-season training.
Jaquet's path to the first team looks promising. With the future of Joe Gomez uncertain and 19-year-old Giovanni Leoni—signed last summer—essentially starting from scratch due to a severe knee injury that ended his debut season, the Frenchman has a genuine chance to make his mark at Anfield.
