Future Liverpool defender Jeremy Jacquet has opened up about the weight of expectations following his high-profile transfer from Rennes. The deal, worth £55m upfront with £5m in add-ons, ranks him among the most expensive French players in history despite having only 31 senior appearances in Ligue 1.
Am I worth that price or not? I think I have the minimum resources to go there. I'm going there to play as much as possible. Jeremy Jacquet
At just 21, the defender prioritized a sporting project over other options, noting that the chance to train alongside experienced stars like Virgil van Dijk and fellow Frenchman Ibrahima Konate was a massive draw. He admitted that while the price tag adds pressure, he is fully focused on football and proving his worth.
Jacquet also clarified his decision to choose the Reds over Chelsea, explaining that he felt there was too much competition at Stamford Bridge compared to the clearer path offered at Anfield. He believes the environment at his new club is the perfect place to establish himself as a regular starter.
After recovering from a shoulder injury, the youngster is expected to be fit for pre-season training. His arrival comes during a period of transition for Liverpool's defense, as the club looks for long-term solutions amidst uncertainty regarding Joe Gomez and the recovery of Giovanni Leoni.
