Levante honour Barcelona's World Cup winners with special tribute

Sportsmanship took center stage in Valencia as Levante UD paid tribute to their opponents' international success. Ahead of their clash with Barcelona, the home club held a ceremony to celebrate the eight Barcelona players who recently helped Spain secure the World Cup trophy.

Following a similar gesture by Elche earlier this season, Levante ensured the atmosphere at the Ciutat de Valencia was one of mutual respect. As the players entered the pitch, fans set aside club rivalries to give the champions a sustained standing ovation.

Levante president Pablo Sanchez Morante personally led the ceremony, presenting each of the eight players—including Rodri, Pedri, Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi, Dani Olmo, Joan Garcia, Eric Garcia, and Gavi—with a unique, personalized piece of local craftsmanship as a token of esteem.

The celebratory mood did not soften Barcelona's competitive edge. The league leaders quickly took control of the match, establishing a two-goal lead by half-time through Xavi Espart and Lamine Yamal. Manager Hansi Flick used the opportunity to rotate his squad, notably including Eric Garcia, who played in a protective mask.

Beyond the sporting tribute, Levante used the match to highlight social issues. Before kick-off, the home squad wore shirts supporting the city of Ceuta, bearing the slogan "We are all Caballas" to draw attention to the ongoing migration crisis in the North African enclave.
