Harry Kane responds to Lamine Yamal's Ballon d'Or comments

Harry Kane has addressed the recent remarks made by Lamine Yamal, who suggested that the Ballon d'Or should recognize the best overall footballer rather than just a player who scores high volumes of goals. The comments from the 19-year-old Barcelona winger were widely seen as a critique of the Bayern Munich forward, who is a frontrunner for the award after a prolific season with 73 goals.

Rather than escalating the discourse, Kane remained measured. "I don't know how he meant it. Yamal is an incredible player," the 33-year-old said. He added that everyone is entitled to their opinion and noted that the race for the trophy remains wide open, listing Kylian Mbappe, Rodri, and teammate Michael Olise as strong contenders.

Bayern's hierarchy offered a more defensive stance. Max Eberl, a board member for sport, dismissed the criticism, arguing that the best players do not require public campaigns. He also voiced strong support for Olise, insisting he belongs in the elite conversation.

The Ballon d'Or ceremony is scheduled for October 26 in London. Kane, who recently celebrated his 100th Bundesliga goal, admitted that winning the award in his hometown would be a special experience, though he insists his primary focus remains on his contributions on the pitch.
