Gustavo Ferrareis leaves Atlas to free up foreign player spot

Brazilian defender Gustavo Ferrareis has officially concluded his spell with Atlas. Although his contract was set to run through next year, the club management reached a mutual agreement to terminate the deal. This move was necessary to free up a foreign player quota spot, allowing the club to register Argentine defender Adonis Frias.

Ferrareis joined the club in May 2025 from Puebla. During his time with the team, he featured in the Apertura 2025, Clausura 2026, and Apertura 2026 campaigns, while also making appearances in the Leagues Cup.

While initially part of coach Hernán Crespo's plans, the team's tactical requirements shifted, leading to the pursuit of a different profile in Frias. Since the squad had already reached its limit of nine foreign players, the board moved to negotiate Ferrareis' exit to accommodate the new signing.

Now a free agent, the defender is exploring options to continue his career in his home country. Santos FC had shown interest in the player, and he was considered for inclusion in the Frias deal; however, the move collapsed due to administrative sanctions currently preventing the Brazilian club from registering new players.
