Former Barcelona and Inter defender Martin Montoya has officially retired from professional football at the age of 35. The Spaniard, who spent over a decade playing at the highest level, announced the news via social media.
Throughout his career, the defender represented several top European clubs, including Valencia, Real Betis, Brighton, and Aris. Montoya described the decision as a thoughtful one made for his future.
After so many years dedicated to the game, it is time to say goodbye to professional football. This is a very well-thought-out decision. I leave feeling that I gave everything I had, that I enjoyed this journey, and that football gave me so much more than just a ball: people, friends, and lessons I learned from every club.
