David Alaba to leave Real Madrid

David Alaba is officially ending his time at Real Madrid. The club has confirmed that the defender, who turns 34 next month, will not have his contract renewed. A formal farewell ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The Austrian international arrived in 2021 as a free agent after concluding his tenure with Bayern Munich. Over his five-season spell in the Spanish capital, he became a key figure in the squad, contributing to eight major titles, including two Champions League trophies.

Alaba's Madrid career was significantly impacted by a major injury. In December 2023, during a match against Villarreal, he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. He struggled to regain his previous form following the recovery, despite being one of the club's highest earners and a vital presence in the dressing room.
