Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero is nearing a departure from London, with Inter Milan currently closing in on his signature. According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, a transfer fee of €40 million has already been agreed between the two clubs.
Negotiations regarding personal terms are ongoing, with Romero's salary demands of €6 million per year proving to be the primary hurdle. Inter are currently reluctant to meet that figure, though both parties are expected to reach an agreement shortly.
The move marks a surprise return to Serie A for the Argentine, who previously played for Genoa and Atalanta before his switch to England. Romero remains under contract at Tottenham until 2029 and served as the club's captain last season, forming a consistent defensive partnership with Micky van de Ven.
Jan Paul van Hecke is set to step into the role vacated by Romero. The Dutchman joined Spurs from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal worth €60 million and recently impressed during a 2-1 friendly victory over Chelsea, where he was praised for his aggressive style.
