Concerns have emerged at Borussia Dortmund following their pre-season friendly against FC Tokyo. Midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka was forced off in the 23rd minute after suffering an apparent injury to his right knee.

The 22-year-old went down without contact in the eighth minute after his foot caught in the turf. While he initially returned to the pitch after receiving medical attention, he was unable to move freely and eventually had to be replaced by Takato Yamamoto.

It remains unclear if the injury is serious or if the substitution was merely a precautionary measure. The incident is a setback for the player, who had recently rejoined the squad following an extended break for the World Cup, where he represented Austria.

Chukwuemeka is looking to secure a more significant role at Dortmund this season after making 38 appearances in the 2025/26 campaign, during which he contributed three goals and two assists. The club is currently awaiting a medical diagnosis to determine his status moving forward.
